If you’re a gamer who also likes to read (yes, we do exist) then Nintendo’s latest idea might appeal to you: ebooks for the DSi.
Nintendo has announced that its 100 Classic Books App will be released in the US this June, a couple of months after the release date for the new DSi XL. The company has previously released a similar package in the UK as well as ebooks for the Japanese market but this is the first time it’s made a such a big push of the DSi as an ereader. Presumably current public interest in ebooks combined with the XL’s enhanced screen size are behind this move.
The 100 eBooks package will be available to buy as a cartridge or download through Wii channels with an expected price of $20. Included in the price will be the usual classic (translation: out of copyright) novels such as Bram Stoker’s Dracula. It’s not clear yet what ebook format the ereader software will support or whether other books will be made available to buy for the Dsi.
